Terry Hope Romero's top 5 eateries for vegan bites in NYC
You may know top chef and cookbook author extraordinaire, Terry Hope Romero, from her appearances at the NYC Vegetarian Food Festival. That, or you cook from one of her bestselling cookbooks every other night! (hello Veganomicon!)
Here, she shares with us her top 5 eateries for vegan bites in NYC.
- Superiority Burger! Vegetarian but mostly vegan, always blows my tastebuds away. I have my usual go to’s (the burnt broccoli salad, the crunchy brown rice wrap), but Brooks always has some kind of surprise the crew has been working on for days, be it Concord grape gelato or a soft as butter Roasted Japanese sweet potato with coconut sour cream.
- Toad Style, creative punk rock fast food. Don’t be fooled by the super casual vibes, everything is handmade with care (including the chickpea tofu), soy-free, and reasonably priced. Best fried pickles, ever.
- Adelina’s in Greenpoint: cozy, romantic veggie-heavy Italian restaurant steps into new territory with lots of rustic vegan-friendly dishes that go beyond the standard red sauced joint, and has a great focus on interesting natural wines too.
- Dosa Delight in Jackson Heights, Queens. A ton of vegan options (it’s a mostly vegetarian joint). The best dosas with an easy subway ride in the city, and favorite chat spot too.
- Veggie Castle II! Queens wins again with an old school favorite, West Indian cuisine made vegan since the 90’s. I always get the roti stuffed with chickpeas and greens, but their burger is secretly one of my favorite veggie burgers in the city.
And there you have it, Terry Hope Romero's 5 Best-Of-NYC spots. What do you think? Definitely some new places to add to our list!
